Movement & Light Designer

Graduated from Codarts University for the Arts (Rotterdam) with a career rooted in world-renowned companies such as Batsheva Dance Company and IT Dansa, Guido Sarli operates at the intersection of movement, lighting design, and visual direction. His work is built on a singular vision: sculpting space and atmosphere through the fluid dialogue between the human body and light.

Stage & Choreography
As the artistic director of Umma Umma Dance, his choreographic works have earned international acclaim and awards across Europe, leading to commission invitations from companies in Italy, Spain, Austria, and Israel. His methodology and movement research, LONA, has been taught across leading conservatories and institutions, including Institut del Teatre, Conservatorio Superior de Madrid María de Ávila, Accademia Nazionale di Danza, and the Institute of the Arts Barcelona (IAB), where he served as a professor in the Master’s program.

The Lens & Aesthetic Heritage
His fascination with the choreographic quality of the camera seamlessly expanded his practice into dance film—directing award-winning short films screened at international festivals—and into a 15-year practice in photography, focusing on performing arts, portraiture, fashion, and architecture. This multidisciplinary sensitivity is further fueled by a distinct aesthetic heritage: growing up under the influence of his grandfather, renowned Italian haute couture designer Fausto Sarli, he developed an intuitive understanding of form, drape, volume, and how light interacts with structure.

Commercial & Visual Direction
As a Movement Director and Light Designer for screen and commercial projects, he brings this rich visual grammar to fashion films, editorial campaigns, and commercial productions. Whether for the stage, the lens, or a commercial set, his work seamlessly bridges choreographic rigor with cinematic lighting design to create compelling visual narratives.
